Hi Bryant,

This definitely sounds like a file corruption since all other files work fine as you say. Unfortunately, the log provided does not contain enough information and without the file it is also very hard for us to identify the exact problem.

The screenshot attached suggests that there are two elements with the same ID, which is obviously not allowed and it should not normally happen either. Maybe the file has also been edited by someone without PM installed? They may have copied existing elements which may explain the issue with the IDs.

Anyway, I suggest we try the following first:
1. In Visio 2010, go to File->Process Modeler->Options->BPMN 2.0 Options->Logging
2. Set the log level to '3'.
3. Click on the 'Clear log' button and close the options with OK.
4. Open the corrupt file.
5. As soon as it is loaded, retrieve the log file C:\Users\[your_username]\AppData\Roaming\itp commerce\Process Modeler\pmlog.txt
6. Send us the file for further inspection.

Since you cannot send us the original file, maybe you are still willing to try the following:
Make a copy of the corrupt file and start deleting random elements (or even pages) from it. Try to make the process as unrecognizable as possible but make sure the document still won't open correctly. If you think you have removed enough information to protect your client, send us the file via e-mail to info@itp-commerce.com

I have a file that, once opened, multiple things are not working:

1) Many menu tools do not activate...for example: Clicking on "Page setup" does nothing...or trying to add a hyperlink to a non-BPMN shape.

2) The file itself (and Visio) refuse to shut down without using the Task Manager "End Process".

I have tried to copy the files contents to a new file but the problem persists.

This file was originally created using Visio 2007 but now I am running Visio 2010 with the latest version of PM. (Note: I still have visio 2007 on my system, but don't use it).

None of my other files created with Visio 2007 & PM have this issue when opening them with Visio 2010.

Any ideas on what the problem could be or possible solutions?

Unfortunately I can't attach the file because it's client proprietary information...but I have attached the PM Log which shows many issues that may help with a possible diagnosis.

Thanks,
Bryant

After the installation you should be able to see a menu called "Process Modeler" in the File tab, and upon opening a BPMN diagram you will see a tab called "BPMN".

If the tab and menu are still not showing, try the following:

Hi,

I am not quite sure why you are not able to open an existing model. By looking at pic1 it seems the plugin was not loaded (the 'Process' menu should be visible at the top, see pic2). Normally you should be able to start PM through the PM shortcut or by selecting the PM template from within Visio. Maybe you could try re-install PM?

As a workaround you could try the following: You say that you can create new diagrams using the PM shortcut. Click on this shortcut in order to create a new diagram. This will load the plugin. Now, without closing the new file, try open an existing diagram from the file menu. Hopefully you should now be able to edit your existing file.

Re #3, in order to keep diagrams easily readable and visually pleasing we recommend that the size of tasks be not changed. If, however, you really need to change it, you can do the following: Right-click on the shape, in the context menu select Format -> Protection... Uncheck 'Width' and 'Height' and press OK. Now you can manipulate the size.

Note: Please be cautious when manipulating shapes as some changes may result in PM not recognizing the shapes anymore.

Hi - By off page connectors I am assuming you mean the Link Events. In order to draw and connect Link Events you will have to drop the Intermediate Event from the stencil onto the the page, right click on it and change its trigger to 'Link' through the shapes context menu.

As to why the lane labels keep changing after switching tabs, I do not have an explanation at this point. This seems rather odd and should definitely not happen.

In order to suppress the name inconsistency dialog upon opening the Visio document, open the Process Modeler Options and uncheck 'Check for element name inconsistencies at startup'.

Viso 2007: File -> Process Modeler -> BPMN 2.0 Options... -> General tab.

Visio 2010: File -> Process Modeler -> Options -> BPMN 2.0 Options... -> General tab.

Did you use a BPD which was created by the commercial edition?
If so it could be that those error icons are still showing. You cannot turn off/on the validation within the FREE modeler.

Hi - I am noticing red circles with Xs in them on several of my process designs using the free BPMN Process Modeler stencil. I believe these are appearing due to the audit capability within the modeler. Is there a way I can remove these individually and/or how can I turn of the audit capability?

Please advise. Thanks.

Hi - I am using the free BPMN 2.0 Modeler with limited stencil that does not include off page connectors. To find off page connectors, I use the shape search capability to find BPMN shapes. Once I place these connectors in the flows, it seems that the titles of each of the lanes within a process design can randomly change. Any explanation as to why the titles of the lanes would change names when I move from tab to tab or when I save & close the document then try to reopen it?

For now I have deleted the lane titles and replaced them with text boxes. Unfortunaely, this creates an error each time I open the Visio document that requires me to decide whether to save the current shape errors as-is or try to correct them (which I am not trying to do).

Please advise as to how these can be corrected as well as confirm how I can turn off the audit capability within the modeler.

Thanks.

This error causes if the my.ini file cannot be found in the Server path. The file is located typically under C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1

Could you try to place this file there and try again.
