The Version 2.0 of Process Modeler for Microsoft Visio will support an export of the BPMN data to XML. So you could do an export (and also import) to a simple XML (internal XML schema of PM) or to standard such as BPEL. Version 2 should be avilable in 3Q04. To do this and to be 100% BPMN compliant we brought in a new data store concept. Our object model will be able to store 100% of the BPMN data and several extensions. To do this we have to identify our objects. So there will be no problem with uniqueness and consitency.

Thanks for your interessting in the Process Modeler.
The product roadmap is not yet 100% fixed, but the following features are candiates for the next Release (V2.0):
– BPMN 1.0 (Final) support for drawing
– BPMN 1.0 (Final) support for semantics validation
– Performance improvement of the semantics validator
– Formal description for all BPMN 1.0 datatypes (XML/Schema)
– Formal description for all BPMN 1.0 validation rules (XML/Schema)

– BPEL Export (and probably also a BPEL import), aka BPEL4WS
– BPML Export (and probably also a BPML import) as soon as mapping is defined by BPMN working group
– Support for other export targets (XML or Database)

The first three points are planed as the minimum of the product release 2.0. If you buy the “early bird” offer (1.1), this upgrade would be free. The other points (integration and round trip features) will be probably licensed as product options.
The BPMN 1.0 release is announced for end of this month. Based on this timeline our next release is planed for mid of 3Q04 latest, core product already end of 2Q04.
